Reformation
by Josh Piven
[in process]

When Ronny Mayer is elected Mayor (“Mayor Mayer”) of an unnamed East Coast city, it’s with a reformer’s zeal and a perhaps-naïve intention to clean house and right the ship—fixing the city’s finances once and for all.

But from day one, he’s frustrated at every turn: intransigent, long-serving City Council members; union bosses who won’t offer a nickel in concessions; a failing school system; and even his scheming, no good brother (Oscar Mayer) who demands favors for his food truck—that will sell hot dogs.

Desperate for new ideas, the frustrated Mayor latches on to a scheme hatched by Danny, his young former campaign aide. The royals in the United Arab Emirates are looking to expand their gaming empire into the United States, and are willing to pay handsomely for the privilege.  As the nation’s first fully-below-ground resort casino, Metro Gambling Mecca and its $6 billion investment seem like the answer to all the Mayor’s—and the City’s—problems. But the Feds are secretly in on the deal, and as the trap begins to close, new alliances, old ghosts, and secret deals come to light, leaving the Mayor scrambling to survive.

With an insider’s keen perspective, this hilarious new political satire imagines a not-so-unfamiliar city under siege, with a Mayor out of options. It’s a backroom comedy so dark you can barely make out the cigar smoke.
